Tiling job and the insight that the cobbler should always stick to his last (Schuster bleib bei Deinen Leisten)
It was a long weekend and I decided to give the tiling of the toilet a try. Tatsuya came to Tokyo as well and it seemed like a good idea and hopefully learning experience for him. It turned out to be mainly a learning experience for me. It is not the first time, but things are most of the time more difficult than they seem and nothing can replace practice and experience. People (including myself) often considers things to be easier than they are. So basically the tiling is a rather easy process when the ground is prepared but it's the details that separate success from failure. It's the handling of the tools, the cleanliness of the result and the edges and crooked corners that present as a real challenge and divide the laymen from the pro. And the fact the once you do something at the place where you plan to live you will be confronted with the result on a regular basis, which could give you a feeling of fulfillment.... or failure and regret. But now enough of the philosophical contemplation and forward to the actual results. It was good fun and the job could be done without major disaster (based on my humble judgement mission was accomplished).
From initial measurement the tiles could have filled the area perfectly, but they did not. A gap of 2cm was left. Off to buy Flex and DIY. After some unsuccessful but luckily harmless attempts to assemble the side cutter if finally worked.
Well just for the record some pictures how it could be done...
Also the it was a positive surprise to see the update of the electric supply.
