Golden Week - big wastewater drainage cleaning!

Saturday May 7th was big wastewater drainage day in Futtsu. The city supplied hemp bags for the mud. It was an experience I did not want to have missed. There was about 10 cm of mud on the bottom of the drainage.  Our friendly neighbor kindly introduced me to the efficient technique.  In the end 6 hemp bags were full.  What else happened during this pleasant Golden Week holiday with great weather and also a bit of wind :) We did some work in the house and added some wooden boards to the wash basin and kitchen cabinets.  We used the same panels as was used by our 大工さん which turned out to be the cheapest and most easy one to process. We did the cutting at the Cainz home center (one cut 50 JPY with member card).  Finally spring is there and the frogs are croaking day and night and the grasshoppers are hopping. With other words it was again highly meditative.  PS: I did my first kite session after the accident.... it had to be to loose the fear.... but don't te...

Tiles for the bathroom & first night in Futtsu beach house (wild mustangs)

Tiles for the bathroom

Slowly it is looking like a bathroom, actually smaller then I had imagined.

Basically I spend some time selecting tiles from the Lixil catalog just to learn from the 作監屋さん that I could not use them since there were too big for such an uneven ground.

It is quite a puzzle work and the catalog does not give much support. Most of the tiles are either suitable for floor or for the wall and there are no clues what colors, size and style would match together.

Well the final choice came to this... for the walls.

This is the catalog for reference: Lixil Tile Catalog

The kitchen and other rooms are also making good progress.

First night in Futtsu beach house (wild mustangs)

The best image to explain the experience is probably riding a wild mustang for the first time. After that it will be tamed, but leaving the rider totally exhausted. Nevertheless I got rewarded with good wind and kite session at 7o’clock in the morning.

But the night was a disaster I was quite tired and convinced I could sleep but after a few tossing and turning in the tent that I set up against any intruders it was getting too hot and sweaty. I moved to the big room turned on the lights on, opened the window and lay in the cold breeze, however I couldn’t stop staring into the dark opening in the ceiling, wondering what was up there. By that time it was already around 1:30 and I told myself two more hours and the sun will rise and everything will be over, but basically I was awake for the whole night.

In the morning the wind was getting stronger and I went to the beach to pay a visit to the toilet. Some windsurfers were getting ready so I decided I might as well join them. I was sticky from the night so decided this was the best way to wake up. I took my kite and drove to the beach on my bicycle half asleep. I didn’t bother to go to the kite beach and set up my my gear right at the port (since I am officially a local now).

The ride was rewarding, I could stand all the turns and the wind was perfect. After roughly 1 hour exhaustion kicked in and I decided to call it a day. It was just 9 o’clock. I went back to the house took a shower with the water from the well and bought a big breakfast at 7 eleven.

By the way the newspaper man is coming at 2:30.

What are the lessons learned?

Fear is like a wild mustang.

Yes, air-conditioning is necessary.

Without toilet and fresh water it is crap.

Getting ready for a sleepless night.

A little bit rusty the next morning... but hey I am still alive and can enjoy kiting surfing...

Well nice try....
