Golden Week - big wastewater drainage cleaning!

Saturday May 7th was big wastewater drainage day in Futtsu. The city supplied hemp bags for the mud. It was an experience I did not want to have missed. There was about 10 cm of mud on the bottom of the drainage.  Our friendly neighbor kindly introduced me to the efficient technique.  In the end 6 hemp bags were full.  What else happened during this pleasant Golden Week holiday with great weather and also a bit of wind :) We did some work in the house and added some wooden boards to the wash basin and kitchen cabinets.  We used the same panels as was used by our 大工さん which turned out to be the cheapest and most easy one to process. We did the cutting at the Cainz home center (one cut 50 JPY with member card).  Finally spring is there and the frogs are croaking day and night and the grasshoppers are hopping. With other words it was again highly meditative.  PS: I did my first kite session after the accident.... it had to be to loose the fear.... but don't te...

A very Olympic Long Weekend

 What did we accomplish this long weekend:

  • Foundation for the flooring in all rooms (finishing the Tatami room wood floor)
  • シロアリ (White Ants) treatment
  • Hot water supply in the kitchen
  • ゼオライト(moisture prevention material) in 3 rooms
  • Fixing the whole in the outer wall on the east side
  • Lecture and nice lunch with Inoue sensei
  • 2 great Kite days....
One of the highlights was definitely the White Ants chapter. The initial plan was to sleep in the garage with the Hammock. However the first surprise was to find the garage full of equipment with a large electricity generator in the middle. The second surprise was the news that the Anti White Ants treatment was scheduled for Thursday afternoon. I am normally not overly sensitive to such things but sleeping in the freshly treated building was a bit too much of a challenge. Therefore I did the walk to Canossa to the camping side, knowing that they are fully booked for the long weekend. But the White Ants did the magic. When I mentioned this to the lady of the Futtsu tourist foundation she immediately allowed me to stay at the campsite, mentioning the strong small after the treatment in the her own house. I really have to bring her some sweets next time...


The second positive surprise was to learn how easy it is to rent a small truck (Kei Truck) from the Home Centers. All it requires is a receipt and one can borrow a truck for up to 2 hours for free. Just a signature to take all the liability, a drivers license and done (thanks to Cainz).


Well finally the day with Inoue san full of valuable advice and common work. We placed some isolation foil on the ground before pouring the ゼオライト. We discussed how to fix the outer walls but decided to leave it for later. 

After he left I spend some quiet hours in the house writing on the blog and finished the day with a kite session. I cannot ask for more...
